Roofers near you: compare up to 5 free quotes
Slipped tiles, a leak or a roof at the end of its life? Tell us about the job and your postcode. We pass it to up to five local roofers, who can send you a quote. It is free, and you never have to accept one.
## What roofers doA roofer keeps the weather out, but the right fix depends on what is wrong. A single slipped tile needs a very different job from a new roof, since the cost and skill differ. Describe the problem as clearly as you can.
- Roof repairs, such as replacing broken tiles or slates.
- Full re-roofs, which strip and replace the whole roof covering.
- Flat roofs, in felt, rubber (EPDM) or fibreglass (GRP).
- Leaks, including tracing where the water gets in.
- Ridge tiles, verges and chimneys, where cement and flashing often fail.
- Fascias, soffits and guttering, at the roof edge.
Roof leaking or damaged by a storm?
Act fast to limit the damage, but do not climb onto the roof yourself, because falls are a serious risk. Take photos, move belongings away from the water and call your insurer. After a storm, unknown roofers may knock on your door, so be careful and never agree to pay upfront on the doorstep.
Read our roof repair cost guide for typical prices, since it also covers storm damage and insurance.
How much does a roofer cost?
Price guides from MyJobQuote and Trade2base suggest a small repair often costs a few hundred pounds. Re-roofing a three-bedroom semi usually falls between about £6,000 and £12,000, while natural slate costs more than concrete tiles. Scaffolding can be a separate line, so ask for it itemised.
London and the South East usually cost more. Guides disagree, so get at least three written quotes for bigger jobs.
How to choose a roofer
We do not vet or guarantee the roofers who respond, so check them yourself. Ask for ID, proof of insurance and a written quote that lists materials, scaffolding and waste removal.
Although joining is voluntary, the Competent Roofer scheme in England lets registered roofers sign off some roofing work under Building Regulations. Many good roofers also belong to a trade body such as the National Federation of Roofing Contractors. Check membership on the body’s own website.

Frequently asked questions
How much does roof repair cost in the UK?
Most small repairs cost from about £150 to £600, according to price guides we checked. Access is the biggest factor, because a roof that needs scaffolding costs far more to reach.
How much does a flat roof replacement cost?
Guides suggest about £1,500 to £5,000 for a typical flat roof, depending on size, drainage and insulation. Ask what material the quote uses and how long it should last.
Is my roof damage covered by home insurance?
Often, yes, if a storm caused it, but policies differ. Wear and tear is usually not covered, yet a sudden leak after a storm often is. Contact your insurer before you pay for repairs, and keep photos and receipts.
How do I avoid roofing cowboys?
Do not hire someone who knocks on your door, because that is a classic cowboy tactic. Get three written quotes, check registrations yourself and never pay the full price upfront.
